The American Dental Association has recommended that, to lessen the spread of the coronavirus, that dental offices be closed for the month of April, except for emergency care. Some states are beginning to allow dental offices to reopen for routine care. Here in Connecticut, we await new recommendations from the Connecticut State Dental Association and the Governor's office on when we can reopen.
Let’s cancel your upcoming appointment now. Given that this period of closure may be even longer, why don’t I give you a call when we’re given clearance to safely open for routine procedures. You can be assured that we will observe our usual strong infection control – masks, gloves with frequent handwashing, sterilizing all instruments, disinfecting surfaces which now include doorknobs.
When you come, you’ll notice that we have removed all magazines, to eliminate that source of cross contamination between patients. All patients will rinse with a dilute hydrogen peroxide, which has been proven to kill the virus; this can greatly reduce potential harmful aerosol during some procedures.
If you do have an emergency, just call our office. The answering service can get in touch with Dr. Westerman; he can call you back and see you in the office if necessary.
